If you could do anything you wanted… what would you do?
That’s a question posed by executive mentor Bob Beihl to over five hundred leaders. Actually, here’s the full question:
IF…
you could do anything you wanted,
IF…
God told you that you were free to choose,
and you had all the time, money,
staff, and education you wanted
and you knew for certain you could not fail . . .
what would you actually do?
That’s quite a question. If you are a leader, you may want to respond quickly, but I would encourage you to hit the “pause” button. Don’t limit your thinking, think BIG. That’s especially true as a spiritual leader, a ministry leader. It is also true for one who leads his or her family.
What would you actually do?
I’m reminded of what the Lord wants for our lives. It is characterized in that well-known verse Paul wrote to his friends in Ephesus:
Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
Ephesians 3:20 NLT
That has always challenged me to think big. Imagine. See what the Lord might do that would be infinitely more than what is even on my heart.
I know… Bob Beihl includes those amazing disclaimers.
“…and you had all the time, money,
staff, and education you wanted…”
We tend to look at what we don’t have. God knows that already. I laugh at the meme that pops up on Facebook from time to time.
“When God put a calling on your life, He already factored in your stupidity.”
There is actually a Scripture that says the same thing, but more eloquently and spiritually.
Remember, dear brothers and sisters, that few of you were wise in the world’s eyes or powerful or wealthy when God called you. Instead, God chose things the world considers foolish in order to shame those who think they are wise. And he chose things that are powerless to shame those who are powerful.
1 Corinthians 1:26-27 NLT
To me, the most critical thing is to be so closely aligned with the Lord’s purpose that our big dreams or desires are in line with His plans. Then, He can take our big dreams to another level that is beyond our imagination.
So… what is that dream?
God’s best,
